  1. Hello,
We have just recently returned to our “Stationary “ home at Eimeo after spending 7 weeks away on our 2014 “Moon River” in our 2002 Compass Limited Edition caravan.
We covered a section of the Queensland Outback staying at a number of caravan parks, showgrounds and free camps. Places visited included Theresa Creek Dam, Alpha, Barky, Winton, Middleton, Boulia, Bedourie, Birdsville (Race week), Windorah, Stonehenge, Ilfracombe and Clermont.
The effects of the sustained long term drought are shocking to see. However the resilience of these wonderful outback towns never ceases to amaze.
Alpha was a real “breath of fresh air” a small community with huge community spirit.
We called in at the Alpha Caravan & Villa Park on our way west and were so impressed with it and the community we spent a further 3 nights on our way home.
Mike and Di are the Managers of the Caravan Park and together with local businesses and community members have implemented a most enjoyable attraction for Park residents.
During the busy season on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings a sausage sizzle is organised and all park residents are given a ticket in a draw for a number of prizes supplied by local businesses as well as vouchers to redeem at Local Businesses Alpha Meats and Deli, Peter Gerard Electrical, Snows bakery, Alpha Pharmacy and SPAR Grocery Store.
Local performer and recording artist Peter Tilse, who plans to have a record available later this year, provides musical entertainment these nights and is often accompanied by local resident Kieran.
A wonderful camp fire with plenty of firewood is nearby the excellent camp kitchen and well patronised on some very cold evenings’.
The park is well grassed with plenty of open spaced areas in the powered and unpowered sites and the amenities and laundry are very clean and well maintained. For cyber buffs WII is available free of charge.
Costs for 2 adults in a powered site are $30 per night but if you stay 3 nights the 3rd night is FREE. Good value at $20 per night.
The really good news is that between our first stay in early August and our return stay in late September they received over 2 inches of rain. They certainly need much more.
We are long term subscribers to your wonderful magazine, keep up the GREAT work.
